DIGIFORTIS – SUSTAINABILITY

At Digifortis we are supporting the UN´s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) SW4SW initiative: Sustainable wood for a sustainable world. Sustainable wood and a sustainable production of wooden products play a key role in strategies for transitioning to low-carbon economies.

Digifortis is committed to buying wood from sustainably managed and legal sources with the aim to strengthen and further develop OLB, FSC and PEFC/PAFC certified forest productions.

The African Timber species we are using are naturally resistant and very long lasting without any chemical treatment/painting. We are drying the wood in our high-tech kilns in JAFZA that are run 100% by solar energy. Our wood has enhanced mechanical properties and unparalleled durability, our wooden window-frames, door-frames, beams, decking and cladding products withstand harsh weather conditions.

All our products are lasting much longer than any comparable PVC product and can be considered “carbon sinks” that are storing CO². In the forest the regrowing young trees absorb the same amount of CO².

Our own procurement offices select logs and lumber in the origin markets. Only selected logs and lumber are being shipped to Digifortis. After cutting and kiln-drying the wood is carefully regraded. Every piece is being used, even short pieces are fingerjoint and laminated to become 5,90m long defect-free wood products. Offcuts are used to produce pallets for the local industry and sawdust is turned into pellets to replace fossil fuels.

Our unique location in the Dubai port / JAFZA zone allows us to import, re-export and sell to local markets with an efficient logistics network and short distances.Today our main markets for wooden window-frames, door-frames, beams, decking and cladding are in Europe and the US but midterm we expect the Middle-East to become the main market for our laminated and solid wood products that are not only sustainable, durable and beautiful but also have a much lower CO² footprint than comparable products made of steel/aluminium/PVC. Last but not least and thanks to the Dubai sun our products also have a lower CO² footprint than comparable products produced in the northern hemisphere.
